Commissioner Sean Murray

District Attorney Sean P. Murray was elected in 2024 to serve the 6th Judicial District comprising Archuleta, La Plata, and San Juan counties.
His career in public service includes practicing law for over a decade in the Four Corners area of the state, starting as a State of Colorado public defender in Durango. He’s held positions in the 6th JD as assistant district attorney, appellate deputy district attorney, and deputy district attorney. He previously served in the 22nd JD as assistant district attorney and deputy district attorney.
A proponent of diversion, he volunteers in his district for the adult wellness court, which takes an alternative approach combining support and intervention for offenders struggling with substance abuse. He also chairs the district’s community corrections board and serves on the Colorado Bar Association Criminal Bar Executive Council.
He earned a juris doctorate from the University of Virginia School of Law and holds a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from UVA.
